All players are dealt three cards.

In clockwise order, players each play one card from their hand into a communal stack until it reaches 52 points or more. 

- 2 through 10 are worth their numerical value in points.
- Aces are worth 1 point.
- Face cards and jokers are worth zero points, but enable the player to pour an amount of their choosing from a designated drink into a communal cup.

- Each time a player plays a card, the group must count aloud the new total point value of the communal stack. 
​- If the player plays a face card or joker, they must announce that they are "pouring on ___" 

Each time a player plays a card, they must draw a new card.

- If the communal card stack reaches exactly 52 points, the round is over and the previous player must drink the contents of the communal cup.
- If a player makes the communal stack go over 52 points, that player must drink the contents of the communal cup.
- If the communal cup is empty when the communal stack reaches 52 points or more, the entire group must finish their personal drinks. 

All cards dealt to players are retained from round to round.
